Fall International Tax Speaking Events

M Squared will be presenting on several different international tax topics.  Below is a list and a high-level summary in case you or your clients may be interested:

  1. Date:                     October 25th

    Topic:                    US Taxation of PFICs

    Registration:      STEP Seattle – PFIC Overview

     

    This 90-minute presentation is part of our monthly STEP meeting.  I will cover the much-dreaded topic of PFIC, including how to identify PFICs, exceptions to the PFIC rules, and the tax consequences and planning opportunities for PFICs.  Members and non-members may attend and lunch will be included.  CPE available.

     

  2. Date:                     October 29th and October 30th

    Location:              Bell Harbor Conference Center or Webcast

    Topic:                    International Tax Law Changes under TCJA

    Registration:      2018 Pacific Tax Institute

     

    I will go over the key international tax law changes under TCJA with an emphasis on the participation exemption, transition tax, and GILTI.  There will be other interesting and relevant topics covered in this conference, including Mark Hugh’s discussions on the Wayfair case.  CPE available.

     

  3. Date:                     November 2nd

    Location:              WSCPA Office (Bellevue) or Webcast

    Topic:                    International Taxation Overview

    This will be an all-day course that will cover a wide range of international tax topics.  This course will be great for staff/seniors/managers at your firm to get a better understanding on international tax laws.  I will balance the course materials from the AICPA with experience from my practice.   CPE available.

     

  4. Date:                     November 14th and November 17th 

    Location:              Bellevue and Seattle

    Topic:                    US Taxation and Reporting of UK pension plans

    Registration:      November 14th (Bellevue) or November 17th (Seattle) 

     

    M Squared has partnered with BABC and Brits Events NW to do a presentation on the US taxation of UK pension plans.  This will be a panel format which will include myself, an immigration attorney, and the CEO of Florin Pensions LLC, which advices UK expatriates on UK pension transfers.

    Topic:                    Foreign Investors in US Real Estate

    M Squared has partnered with Guild Mortgage to present on US taxation of foreign real estate investments.  I will cover common US tax issues faced by foreign buyers/sellers, the use of different types of holding companies under TCJA, and FIRPTA rules.
